Abstract

Beyond the numerical growth bringing to 232 million the number of international migrants worldwide, we notice the diversification of migrant profiles. Among them, freshly-graduated Northern citizens go live in the Global South for personal and professional purposes. Indeed, due to the massive international assistance poured into this region, occupied Palestinian territories have become a land of opportunities for young European and American professionals. If they arrived in oPt for an internship, many of them end up settling in. This paper aims to analyze the progressive construction of their migratory careers and how highly-educated international young graduates become migrants.

Clio Chaveneau, Université Paris Sorbonne Abu Dhabi – Institut français du Proche-Orient, antenne Territoires palesti-niens.

Docteure en sociologie (Paris Descartes-Sorbonne), est Professeure assistante de sociologie à l’Université Paris Sorbonne Abu Dhabi. Elle est aussi chercheure associée à l’Institut français du Proche-Orient (IFPO), antenne Territoires palestiniens. Sa thèse de doctorat portait sur les « internationaux », citoyens occidentaux résidant actuellement dans les Territoires palestiniens occupés, et interrogeait, d’une part, les trajectoires migratoires et biographiques de cette population, et, d’autre part, la manière dont ces individus sont parties prenantes des dynamiques sociopolitiques locales au travers de leurs mobilités, leurs emplois et leurs engagements.
