This article examines how power relationships structure the practice of ethnographic research. Based on ethnographic research conducted by a western white researcher in the Philippines, this paper describes how relations of domination are continually reiterated in the social interactions, thus structuring the collection of materials. Therefore, the paper developpes a critical epistemological and ethical reflection on standpoint theory. By doing so, it mobilizes works that show that even if reflexivity by white subjects on their postures in the production of knowledge allows them to become visible and aware of their dominant position in power relations, these practices bring a limited response to the change of power relationships. Therefore, this article aims to inscribe the ethical view of research in a critical geopolitic of knowledge.
