Within national schools of architecture, the rapprochement with the university leads to a desire to clarify “research by design” and “design by research”. This article offers a reflective look at several pedagogical experiments conducted in the master’s cycle in French schools of architecture between 2016 and 2021. Based on a research seminar and a project workshop, the article explains why to teach inquiry to future architects, and formulates some foundations for the “design by inquiry”.
