Abstract

What is the role and place of colonial medicine in the expansion and implementation of the new French imperialism in Africa in the second half of the 19th century? What is the impact of epidemics in the construction and establishment of the colonial order? The article tries to highlight the historical, social and ideological factors that underlie disease outbreak crises in northern Senegal in the second half of the nineteenth century through the study of the 1868 cholera epidemic.
