To belong to a sociopolitical category in general and to a group in particular, is a daily accomplishment. « To be member of » is not a brute, natural fact, but a practice that is learnt and deserved by interacting with the environment. Such a view emerges from the following case-analysis of the experiences of Huarpes indigenous students who received a scholarship to study in a public Argentinean University. We pursue two main objectives. First, we describe indigenous’ intercultural experience. Second, we aim to challenge the utility of the notion of identity when accounting for indigenous membership.
