This article examines the memory practices of contemporary mhuysqa communities. It analyzes the practices implemented by the Cota indigenous community in Cundinamarca Department, Colombia. This community tries to break with the colonial image of the Muisca people as a timeless pre-hispanic culture, which is hegemonic in Colombian society. In quest of official recognition as an ethnic minority, this community creates new forms of organization as well as it makes itself visible to the eyes of a society obsessed with native « authenticity ».
