Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the difficulties students are confronted to when they leave college to enroll in Master in France in Human and Social Sciences. Students have to understand a set of institutional and communities issues linked to research, an understanding directly linked to their future insertion in the academy. However, these past fifteen years, radical changes in France’s higher education increased such issues’ complexity, and college students’ experience is not sufficient to fully understand this evolution. After considering the practical choices students are confronted to, we will discuss the role of the tutor, and finally, we will study the implications of the definition of the research subject.
