The academic supervision in science is a field of struggle where, faced with institutional failures, agents compete for its conservation and its overthrow. On the one hand, academic supervisors in a highly hierarchical society are a necessary element of the field, and tend to build a monopoly regarding the field and its resources. Consequently, scientific issues are marginalized by those supervisors. On the other hand, faced with these difficulties in the field, junior researchers are obliged to fit in the system thanks to their academic supervisors’ help, and by capitalizing on the external resources of the university to build up their scientific know-how.
