This article focuses on the practice of public speaking, which has become closely linked to the managerial function, takes the example of managers in France’s national education system (“L’Education nationale”), specifically a new training course that was offered to them. This course comes at a particularly tense time for professionals in the education sector, where school principals are called upon to speak for instance in situations of conflict or crisis management. After outlining the specific cultural contexts of France and the French education system, the article analyses the range of skills upon which public speaking is dependent. This is followed by a presentation of the theoretical and practical components of the training course under study here, including the use of technological tools such as virtual reality, which was used in some of the workshops, and artificial intelligence, which was tested as a means to prepare the script. Finally, we analyse the feedback received from the trainees during the pre- and post-course periods, which highlight the value of the course, where practical application is closely linked to a theoretical approach.
