Abstract

Television entertainment programs have often been considered as more conducive to women professional integration. This was particularly true for those who have occupied presenting or producing functions. But “entertainment” is an imprecise term to describe various programs as game or variety shows, youth programs, reality TV, etc. To measure this kind of women’s confinement in some television category genres, we chose to study the professional careers of those who have presented, and sometimes produced, television game and variety shows in France, where those two television genres have been historically interrelated. Building our analysis on digital data retrieved from The French National Institute of Broadcasting, completed by some written archives and programs viewings, we intend to explore a gender and multifaceted segregation phenomenon. We will discuss the inequalities women have faced with when presenting or producing those television programs, in comparison to their men counterparts.
