This contribution explores the multiple evolutions of the professional field of communication from the results of surveys carried out by the 2022-2023 class of the master 2 Information-Communication of the Paul Valéry University in Montpellier. This research was conducted during two courses in which the students have respectively to create a magazine and to organize a professional event for local professionals. These courses were created in our department 20 years ago this year: on this occasion, the students interviewed professionals about the past, current and future challenges of their profession, the evolution of their practices and the challenges they are facing. This article was collectively written by the three professors who supervised the projects this year and by four students who participated in their implementation. It develops the results of the student’s surveys, following four avenues: the communicators positions within the organizations, the skills adjustments, the evolution of the formation, and new forms of work management.
