The royal burial chambers from Merenptah have several common features such as a large ramheaded bird dominating the wall with its deployed wings. On most of the lids of royal sarcophagi from the Ramesside period, the king is depicted momiform as Osiris and flanked by snakes and a crocodile This article aims to clarify on the meaning of these two motifs in light of the Book of Caverns and the Book of the Earth some scenes of which adorn the walls of these same burial chambers.
