The study of the name and status of Faustulus, the adoptive father of Romulus and Remus, reveals that, through his onomastic links with Faunus, this generous protector projects onto the Albanian twins both royal connotations and the protection that Mars, their “biological” father, bestows upon them, both of which are necessary for the suppression of Amulius as well as for their claim to found Rome.
