Abstract

This study analyses the textual variants of the Greek text of Ruth 4,13 and traces their historical development. It emerges that the minus, attested in B, 509, 707 and in the Ethiopic translation, is related to the process of translation of the Hebrew text into Greek. In the process of transmission of the Greek form, the plus in 4,13 would have been introduced according to two different textual traditions, which reveal the variability of the text and its transmission. The manuscript A, the hexaplaric and R recensions correct the minus in order to make the text as faithful as possible to the Hebrew Vorlage. The Lucian recension seems to revise the text of A and of the recensions in order to render it in a stylistically better Greek and to harmonize it with Ruth 1,4.
