We present here a method for teaching how to write and read classical Arabic. Mainly aimed at beginners, it was devised and successfully tested for several years. The paper is divided into three sections: the description of a new system of phonetic transcription, as close as possible to Arabic script and pronunciation; a thorough recall of the rules of correct pronunciation at the basic and scholarly levels; a new and simplified system of vowellization.
