Scholars and Literati in European Academia before 1800 – an update

Abstract

This note is a progress report on the establishment of a relational database of scholars and literati active in European Academia from the inception of the first universities to the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. This database underpins our work to quantify the role of academia in the “Rise of the West”, using the methods of economics and statistics.
